Frequently Asked Questions

What is a free consultation with the therapist?

The therapist will set up a 15 minutes free virtual/phone consultation to discuss the need for therapy, the therapist’s approach, and if the therapist is a good fit for your needs. This consultation does not make you a client.  The therapist will recommend scheduling an intake session if you and the therapist consider this appropriate service for your needs. The therapist will make a referral/recommendation to another therapist/agency if the person is open to suggestions.

Virtual therapy versus in-person therapy sessions

Adult clients can participate in virtual or in-person sessions.  However, there is a possibility that the therapist recommends an in-person session over a virtual session due to the client’s mental health symptoms.

Adolescents can participate in virtual or in-person sessions. However, there is a possibility that the therapist recommends an in-person session over a virtual session due to the client’s mental health symptoms.

Children can participate in in-person sessions. However, there is a possibility that the therapist will allow virtual sessions due to specific circumstances. Feel free to discuss any particular arrangement with the therapist.

How to prepare for your first therapy session?

Before the first appointment and after the phone consultation, the therapist will send you an email with intake information that must be completed before the first session. Completing this documentation usually takes 10 minutes to 20 minutes.  This information must be completed 48 hours before your scheduled appointment, or your first appointment will be canceled/rescheduled. If you have any trouble opening the email or completing the intake form, don’t hesitate to contact the office before your appointment.

Intake documents to be completed include:

Practice policies, the release of consent, etc.

Biopsychosocial documentation

Demographic information

Credit/debit card information/Health Saving Plan (HSA)

What to expect during your first visit session

During the first appointment, you and the therapist will discuss presenting issues, therapy goals, and expectations for therapy. Next, the therapist will discuss expectations for treatment. At the end of the session, you and the therapist will decide if the treatment is a good fit for you and if so, the therapist will provide you with a new appointment as part of the treatment plan.

How many therapy sessions do I need?

The number of sessions needed varies from case to case.

For Example, EDMR Therapy works in phases. Phase 1 is the intake/preparation, which could last one to two sessions. Phase 2 is the resourcing phase. This could be completed in one to two sessions if no other safety concerns need to be addressed in that session. Phase 3 to 7 always runs together; this phase could last from one session to four sessions. Finally, phase 8 can be completed in one session, but it will vary from client to client. Phase 3- 8 will be used to reprocess each target memory of the trauma.
